Are Radiators Gas Or Electric?

By Dynamic Heaters

Are radiators gas or electric? This is a question that a lot of people ask! The truth is that you can get both gas and electric radiators. Traditionally, gas systems have been used in the UK, however, more and more people are starting to move toward electricity.

There are a number of different reasons why gas heating has started to reduce in popularity. One of the chief reasons is because we are concentrating more on energy efficiency today. Electric heaters are much more efficient and they do not typically require as much maintenance either. With that being said, continue reading to discover everything you need to know about gas and electric boilers so you can determine which one is the best for you.

What are the benefits associated with electric radiators?

There are a lot of benefits that are associated with electric radiators. So, let’s take a look at them in further detail:

Installation is a lot easier

Firstly, they are a lot easier to install when compared with gas radiators. You do not require any pipework. All that you need is a connection to the electrical circuit. This means that electric radiators can be installed pretty much anywhere in your property with minimal disruption to your system.

Higher levels of safety

Another benefit associated with electric radiators is that they are safe. Fuel is not burned internally to create heat, as is the case with gas radiators, and this means that you do not have any of the associated safety risks, for example, explosions or carbon monoxide poisoning. This means that you can rest a lot easier in your home with an electric radiator.

Silent operation

Electric radiators are pretty much silent too, so you can enjoy much more comfortable living at the same time.

100 per cent efficiency

Aside from the advantages that we have discussed so far, one of the main reasons to go down this route is because electric radiators are 100 per cent efficient. They come with a whole host of different built-in controls that can lower your energy bills drastically when used correctly. Of course, we can take you through all of the different features that come with your electric radiators so you know how to make the most of them to enhance efficiency at your home.

There are many benefits associated with this. This is a great way of lowering your energy bills. At the same time, you will also be able to do your bit for the planet, which is something we should all be doing, right?

Why are gas radiators becoming redundant?

There are a number of different reasons why homeowners are rightly moving away from gas radiators. This includes the following:

Boiler maintenance and breakdowns can be expensive

Gas central heating demands maintenance that can be very costly, especially if your boiler breaks down. If you have not replaced your old boiler, you are potentially going to be running an inefficient heating system. The older your boiler is, the more it is going to need to work to heat your property.

If you leave your boiler without getting the servicing that it requires, you are putting it at significant risk of a breakdown, and the larger the malfunction is, the more money it is going to cost to resolve.

A lack of efficiency

Earlier, we mentioned how much more efficient electric radiators are, and on the flip side, gas radiators are not efficient at all.

Despite the fact that gas boilers can be as much as 90 per cent efficient if you go for one of the newer models, that’s nothing close to the efficiency that an electric boiler offers. Electric radiators are fully efficient, turning 1 kWh of electricity into one unit of heat, which means they are fully efficient. The same cannot be said for gas boilers.

And remember, if you have one of the older gas boilers in your home, they will be nowhere near 100 per cent efficient.
